The Belleville Bulls were shutout 3-0 in Ottawa on Friday night. After a strong opening period in which the Bulls played an aggressive fore-checking style, Belleville failed to maintain the momentum, generating only seven shots the rest of the game.
The first period saw the Bulls come out aggressively and put together shift after shift of solid pressure in the Ottawa end. The all four lines had good shifts generating quality scoring chances. For the first 15 minutes of the period the Bulls dictated the play, before a slight let-up in the final minutes where Tyson Teichmann came up with some key saves. Shots on goal favoured Belleville 11-10.
The second period, which has been the team’s nemesis all year long, once again saw the Bulls struggle. After Belleville failed to generate any momentum on a power-play, the 67’s began to take over. Four minutes into the frame, Corey Cowick scored his sixth goal of his shortened season taking advantage of a clean face-off win from Ryan Martindale. Ottawa extended their lead with under two minutes to go as Cody Lindsey scored his 20th of the year on a good individual effort with Tyler Tofoli earning an assist on the play. Shots on goal favoured Ottawa 13-2.
The third period saw the Bulls continue to struggle. Two minutes into the period, Belleville’s defence was caught asleep at the wheel as Dalton Smith beat everyone to a loose puck and fed Jon Carnevale, who was left alone in front of the net. Once again the shots on goal were heavily skewed in Ottawa’s favour 16-5.
With less than a minute left in the game a line-brawl erupted between the two benches as a frustrated Julian Luciani began to mix things up. Luciani was issued a game misconduct for his actions. You can see the game sheet here and video will be up soon.
